Climb the mountains and get their good tidings
One of our more difficult climbs, and epic ride days takes us through the Valpolicella hill villages of Fumane, Molina, and Fosse and then to the climb of Passo Fittanze, a mountain pass lying between the Veneto and Trento regions. This climb is part of the Dolomites mountain chain and is about 20km long from the approach we take. The ride in total is 125 k long, with 2300m of climbing.
To add to the challenge, the last 3 km of road turns to gravel, but the road also opens onto beautiful meadows. During the spring, these meadows are filled with flowers, in summer they are green, and in autumn they turn the warm colors of the harvest season. Don’t be surprised if a cow or two crosses your path. Of course, we don’t visit this area in winter, as it will be covered in snow.
At the top is a monument honoring all the fallen soldiers. And of course, a most welcome bar, Bar Passo Fittanze, where you can replenish with local specialties and a local beer, or perhaps a coffee and delicious pastry. This is a ride for the passionate cyclist who loves to conquer long climbs.
